Thanksgiving and the South
Carolina Bluegrass Festival
Our campsite in Ocean
Lakes Campground at
Myrtle Beach. The camp-
ground was packed for
the weekend.
Audra rented a beach
house from a co-worker
in Asheville. They had
luxury accommodations
for the weekend.
Is there any truth to the
saying that too many
cooks spoil the broth?
Not here! A feast was
prepared by Martha,
Vicki, Barbara, and Audra.
Audra checks out the
ingredients for the
green bean casserole
while Kaleb looks for
an appetizer.
Martha knows how to
get right after a great
Thanksgiving meal.
The gang gathers at
the Myrtle Beach
Convention Center
for the bluegrass
show.
Martha's cousin, Henry,
is all decked out and
ready to show off his
Dobro.
Ready to listen to some
good foot-stomping
music.
Doyle Lawson and
Quicksilver. That's
Josh Swift playing
Henry's Dobro at the
far right. Henry was
real proud to have
his Dobro played on
stage.
One of our favorite
bands is Cherryholmes.
This is BJ and Molly on
the fiddles.
Sandy and daughter, Cia,
Cherryholmes perform with
Pop in the background.
Smiles indicate that
we're having fun!
Martha snapped this
picture of Jamie Dailey
and Darren Vincent
back stage. This duo
is the hottest act in
bluegrass music.
Vicki got a picture
and a hug! Bluegrass
music is not just for
"old-farts" anymore.
Bluegrass musicians
are special because
they are so personable
and approachable.
"Little Roy" Lewis jams
with some of the
festival attendees in
the food court.
The Lewis Family sisters'
health is failing, and
they are barely hanging
on, but Little Roy is still
going full-throttle!
A large room is set up
back stage for vendors
and entertainers to
meet and greet and
sell their wares.
Martha and Vicki had to
pick up a few things in
between performances.
We stayed on a couple
of days after the
Thanksgiving weekend.
The campground that
had been packed was
deserted by Sunday
afternoon.
We had an almost
unobstructed view of
the ocean from our
campsite despite being
over 100 yards from the
beach. We've never
seen Ocean Lakes so
empty.
This will likely be our last trip out with the
camper for this year. We haven't gotten to
travel much this year because of the
extremely high fuel cost, but we are hopeful
that next year things will be better. Stay
tuned for more great adventures with Martha
and Terry!
