Traveling Deep Into
Enemy Territory
September 9 - 15, 2009
Hooked up at our
storage lot and almost
ready to go
Martha tries to squeeze
in just a few more items.
Terry locks the door
and we're ready to roll.
We got plenty of practice
setting up in the rain. It
rained almost incessantly
the first four days of the
trip.
New Jersey wasn't
really intended to be
part of the trip, but we
visited a couple of
places since we were
passing so close by.
The rain just seemed to
follow us everywhere.
We bypassed New
York City to avoid that
legendary traffic mess.
Did we mention that it
rained?
We camped at Foxboro,
MA, less than 5 minutes
from the New England
Patriot's stadium.
We didn't realize that the
season opener was going
to be played while we
were there. Let us tell you
that there are a lot of
people attending pro
football games.
We had 8 guys in a
rented motorhome
camped across from us.
They were sleeping on
every available flat
space including this one
in the windshield dash.
They were hard core
fans having fun.
When we finally got a
break in the weather,
we visited the JFK
Presidential Library in
Boston.
We were a little
disappointed that the
museum relied too much
on photos and video
rather than having actual
Kennedy artifacts, but it
was still quite good.
Kennedy loved to sail,
and they did have one
of his prized boats on
display during the time
we were there.
We had lunch there at
the center. Terry is
studying the museum
map to determine how
to find the way out.
There was no
disappointment with
the location of the
library/museum. It
was beautiful with
the Boston skyline
visible across the
bay.
The tongue jack was the
first casualty of the trip.
The intense rain had leaked
into the head and shorted
out a switch. Fortunately,
Terry was able to gerry-rig
the switch so we could use
it until a permanent repair
could be made.
Sunday afternoon traffic
in Boston. There are
way too many people
here. We can't imagine
rush hour traffic on a
weekday.
Martha's glasses broke
at almost the same time.
We had to stay in
Foxboro two extra days
to get her some new
glasses made. Hopefully,
this will conclude our
bad luck for the trip.
