Locarno to
Zermatt
The sad time had
come for Jasmine to
return to Brutten.
Unfortunately, some
folks still have to go
to work.
We really missed
having her with us for
the rest of the trip.
However, she probably
needed a break from
deciphering our
Southern-English.
Soon we were back in
Italy as we started our
journey to Zermatt.
Italian mountain roads
are just as much fun to
drive as Swiss roads.
Thank goodness we
had an expert driver.
We continued to
see outstanding
scenery along the
way.
The small Italian
village of Re was
very typical except
for one thing.
That difference being
the Sanctuary of the
Madonna del Sangue.
This beautiful church
is built on the site
where a miracle
occurred in 1494.

The inside of the
sanctuary was
breathtaking.

These folks don't mess
around when honoring
their miracles.
Stained glass windows filled the
sanctuary with a cornucopia of
colored light.
We needed to press
on, so we're back on
the road in the
fabulous northern
Italian countryside.
Our next stop was
the historic Italian
village of Varzo.
While we looked for
a restaurant Manuel
took this photo of
Terry making the
picture on the right.

We were all fascinated
with these wonderful
old homes.
We were just stopping
for a snack and bath-
room break, but we
found a wonderful
restaurant.
This was the view
from our table.
Unfortunately, the
photo cannot
adequately recreate
the environment.
Martha stands at the
entrance to the
village church. This
is another of those
wonderful churches
we saw during our
travels.
This church is relatively
new by European
standards, being built in
1753. Everywhere we
went churches were
open and welcomed
visitors.
This church also had
very impressive
stained glass windows.
Soon, we were back
into Switzerland, and
the scenery just kept
getting better.
Scenes like this
seem to be around
every curve.
We were ready for lunch by
2:00, and this McDonald's
in a community just outside
Brig was just what we were
looking for.
We ate delicious meals
everywhere we went, but
for Americans craving a
hamburger, McDonald's
in any language is "The
Real McCoy."
After a day of riding in
the car, it was time to
board the train in Tasch
for the ride to Zermatt
and the Matterhorn.
