Visiting Cousin Bud in Griffin, Georgia
Our final stop on this
trip was in Griffin, GA
to visit with Martha's
cousin, Bud Griffin,
and his children
Spencer and Linda.
Martha joins the group
along with Spencer's
favorite lady - his dog
named, "Lady."
Linda treated us to a
meal fit for a king on
our first night in Griffin,
then we traveled to
Spencer's lake house
at Lake Sinclair.
With this lakeside deck, it's
no wonder that Spencer
and Bud spend lots of time
at the lake just relaxing.
The lake was muddy from
the flooding that had taken
place in the days prior to
our visit.
However, on this day it
was warm and a nice day
to sit out on the deck.
Water has an amazing
calming and relaxing
effect.
Terry was practicing his
relaxing skills really hard.
Tragedy struck just days
before our arrival when
Spencer's pontoon boat
sank while he was away
and was ruined.
Determined to take us
for a ride on the lake, he
found this old long-
abandoned boat and
bought it.
He worked day and night
for almost a week to turn
that wreck of a boat into
this.
He didn't get everything
finished that he wanted
to do, but he got it
travel worthy and took
it out for a test drive.
His knees were sore,
and his back hurt, but
he had a boat!
Bud got to pilot the
boat for its maiden
voyage across the
lake.
Terry getting more
practice on his relaxing
skills.
Martha took this action
shot of a goose during
take-off from the lake.
Unfortunately, the
weather turned cold and
our boat riding came to an
early end.  Fortunately, we
didn't get caught driving
an unregistered boat on
the lake!  Spencer is
calling out hull numbers
while Terry writes them
down to get proper
registration.
Back in Griffin, Bud took
us on a tour of the city.
Bud's daughter, Linda
and son-in-law Gordon,
played a big role in
saving the Bailey-Tebault
mansion from demolition.
It now houses the Griffin
Spaulding County
Historical Society.
This building in downtown
Griffin belonged to the
family of a dentist named
John Henry Holliday.  John
was born in Griffin, but will
be best remembered by his
nickname "Doc" and a little
incident that he was
involved in at the OK Corral
in Tombstone, Arizona.

"He was the most skillful
gambler, and the nerviest,
fastest, deadliest man with a
six-gun I ever saw."

                   -Wyatt Earp
We want to say a special 'thank
you' to Bud, Spencer, Linda, and
Gordon for their wonderful
hospitality during our trip there.
It will take us a long time to lose
the weight we gained from all the
great food that we ate.  We never
want to lose the memories of
family and friendships renewed
during this brief visit.
Bud and Spencer have a
father-son relationship
that anyone would envy.
They are just two guys
having fun.
