White Christmas 2009 (Be Careful What You Wish For!)
|
Our white Christmas
started a week early
with a beautiful
snowfall trimming our
decorations in white.
. . . but it kept snowing
and snowing throughout
the day.
By nightfall we had 10
inches of snow and it
was still coming!
Our decorations went
from being trimmed to
being buried.
Terry's mom called to
report the power was off
at the farm. Getting there
to get the generator going
wasn't easy. This was the
Ingle's parking lot at
Marshall.
Many of the roads had
not been cleared of
snow, and there were
lots of downed trees
and utility lines.
The snow was 12 -
15 inches deep at
the farm.
There were dozens of
uprooted and broken
trees across the farm
roads.
Terry knows what he is going to be
doing for exercise in the coming
months.
There will be no shortage
of firewood for next
winter. Fortunately, the
power came back on after
six days, and we were
able to carry on with our
Christmas plans.
Our family get together
was at our niece, Audra's,
house. She has been
drafted as the host for
the past few years since
she has the largest living
room.
Kaleb was the master
of ceremonies this day.
Nothing can match a
child's excitement at
Christmas.
Somehow, he knew that
we would all need help
opening our presents.
Barbara is excited about
her present too. Note
that she and Martha have
matching haircuts this
Christmas.
Vicki knows that Santa is
really a Duke basketball
fan at heart.
"Shop 'til you drop"
Someone knew the
right shirt to get for
her!
Kaleb found Luke's
multi-bit screwdriver
less interesting than
his new dinosaur toy,
but he is all boy and it
won't be long until
those big-boy toys are
exciting too.
Kaleb assists Martha in
getting the wrapping
paper off .
A remote control caddy.
Now there's a real
man's gift!
Our thanks again to Audra
for hosting us, picking up
all the trash, disposing of
the left-overs, etc.
Our white Christmas was
not over yet. We had over
2 inches of rain Christmas
eve and Christmas day.
Our 10 inches of snow was
now 2 - 3 inches of solid ice
that wasn't about to melt.
This must have been a
present from old Lucifer
himself. Nothing to do
but break it up and pile it
beside the driveway.
Next year, maybe 70 degrees and
sunny will be our Christmas wish.
