Brienz,
Shilthorn, &
Interlaken
Our apartment in
Brienz was in the
building on the left.
Brienz was another
breathtaking Swiss
village between the
mountains and a
lake.
This was the view
from our back door
at the apartment.
Barbara and Sonja
organizing the kitchen.
We all gather around
the patio to enjoy the
view.  Remember that
the temps were in the
90's when we left
home.
Jasmine was in charge
of frying bacon.  After a
big breakfast, we were
ready to do some
sightseeing.
Brienz Lake is one of the
many gorgeous natural
lakes in Switzerland.
Manuel continued to
teach us how to take
photographs with this
great shot. (MB)
The farms looked like
resorts in the open
countryside.
The village of
Lauterbrunnen.
Note the waterfall.
Our mouths hung
open at all the
beauty we were
seeing.
The cable car ride to Schilthorn
was thrilling especially if you like
being
very high off the ground.
Check out the picture on the right.
We had to take four
different cable cars
to reach the top.
Clouds were drifting
by at the top which
gave an eerie feeling
at times.
The James Bond movie,
"On Her Majesty's Secret
Service" was filmed here.
Sonja and Martha
check out the views.
Snowballs have been
hard to come by in
North Carolina lately.
Holding on at 10,000
feet elevation.
Now this is one
good looking group
of tourists.
After lunch at the Piz Gloria
revolving restaurant, and
lots of pictures, it was time
to ride back down.
Para-gliding was very
popular.  We were
tempted to sign up
and take a ride with a
buddy.
We stopped in
Interlaken to reload
our cash supply and
do some shopping.
These magnificent
cities are everywhere.
Of course, like many
European cities, bring
your own parking
place.
The most remote valleys
of the Alps cannot escape
American influence.
Sonja pets the horse
after we take a buggy
ride in Interlaken.
One of our favorite
restaurants on the entire
trip was operated by the
family of Sonja's friend
Monica.  The atmosphere
was surpassed only by
the view of Lake Brienz
below.
Family-style in the Alps.
Sonja, Peter, and Monica
Peter invited us to visit
his farm the next day,
which turned out to be
one of the most
memorable events of the
trip.
The restaurant was
decorated with real
swiss cowbells.
