Arriving in Brutten
Our torture chamber
from Atlanta to Zurich.
This refreshed our
memory about why we
don't like to fly anymore.
Manuel and Sonja met
us at the airport.
Thank goodness, as
we were zombies
after an all-night flight.
Manuel and Sonja's
home in Brutten, and
our new home away
from home.
We were about to be
introduced to European
coffee.
Martha's excitement
says it all.  We're in
Switzerland!
Sonja, Manuel,
Jasmine, and her
boyfriend, Lars.  We
had breakfast fit for
a king.
Steve, Manuela, Rolf,
Jasmine, Sonja, and
Barbara as we enjoy
the first of many
feasts.
One of the pleasant
differences from
American restaurants is
that here patrons can
bring their pets.  We
wanted to bring this
one home.
After a day of rest and
adjustment to the
six-hour time difference,
our first touristy thing
was a tour of Kyburg.
Martha takes a break
along a beautiful Kyburg
street.
Kyburg's 800
year-old castle was
magnificent.
The castle was set on
top of a large hill and
offered great views of
the surrounding
countryside.
Manuel and Sonja
demonstrate medieval
dancing.
A fine collection of 13th
century assault weapons.
Jasmine and Lars
accompanied us on
this tour.
Damsels waiting for
their knights to appear.
 (They finally gave up
and left with us regular
guys.)
After the castle tour we
dropped by Manuela and
Rolf's new apartment for
some snacks.  They were
just moving in, but took
time to visit and entertain
us.  We Americans were
abject failures at
enunciating the rolling R's
to properly pronounce
Rolf's name.
That night we had
another wonderful
supper and got to
meet Sonja's best
friend, Marian.
Martha and Terry
walk back to the
car after the tour.
Parking is scarce
everywhere.  (MB)
